This is an impressive large, bulky jet back species and it is very desirable for many hobbyists. It is as docile as a spider and are like little Kittens, this making an ideal species for the novice. It is a very hardy species and does not require any special attention. Provide the enclosure with a deep substrate, water bowl and flower pot hide and then sit back and watch. It is a very calm spider and does not spin much web. It is a very good display species and spends a lot of time out in the open and bulldozes the substrate around the enclosure.

This spider comes from semi-arid areas of Southern Brazil inhabiting pampas and grasslands under the fallen logs, tree roots and other natural ground shelters. This species like its close relative Grammostola rosea (Chile Rose) are highly recommended and like the Chile Rose it is a slow grower and may sometimes not eat for a couple of months each year. An interesting note is that adult males lives a lot longer than the average life span of a male Tarantula (5-8 months), males have been know to live for up to two years after maturing. Having said this, this species isn’t readily bred.
