Phormingochilus are is a large arboreal tarantula from the subfamily Ornithoctoninae. Differing from the typical Cyriopagopus in having very dense femoral fringes which it shares with the Lampropelma genus. Also sharing with the Lampropelma genus is the very stout front legs in particular in juveniles. The abdomen has the trademark “tiger stripes” of Ornithoctoninae.
