These are from the rich agricultural area of Aconcagua, near Casa Blanca they have a bronze carapace and long red hairs on the abdomen.
These have dark femurs with cream stripes running down the knees which sells it to me,
Haven’t been in the hobby for years upon years, having been described in 1917 (Chamberlin) from a small juvenile specimen as Aphonopelma abberans. This species was one of the first spiders with traits unique to Aphonopelma found in Chile, amongst which I’m guessing is a very slow growth rate, but are long lived animals on the plus side, and that concludes our history lesson.
Slings of this species are best started in sling pots, (ask if you need one adding) feeding on dwarf fruit flies, and pipette a corner of the substrate for moisture, although they take this from the food as well, and fill pot about half way, life’s scary when you’re small so do like a little burrow to retreat into.
