It is a burrowing species with large pincers and a small tail. It can be found under rocks, but also digs burrows in open grasslands and savannah. It is active at night. It is known from the eastern side of South Africa through KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and Limpopo, also entering eSwatini and southern Mozambique.
